The new texting while driving law becomes official on August 1, 2012 for the state of Alabama. In an effort to see how prevalent this problem is, the Fox6 station in the area decided to drive around and see how many people they could catch texting behind the wheel. They saw the first offender after five minutes of driving. As the effort to see how many texting drivers they could find continued, the realization that this really is a problem took hold as the infractions piled up.
