Iowa City Police Give First Ever Citation For Texting Behind the Wheel

Iowa City Police have given their first texting-while-driving ticket. The ticket was given to a college student who rear ended another driver on Independence Day. This individual allegedly admitted to officers that she was texting while she was driving. The Iowa state law against texting while driving was put into effect at the start of July 2011, but this is the first ticket given by the department.
