Illinois Bans Cellphones Among Commercial Drivers and in Work Zones

On Friday, July 20, four new laws were passed in Illinois regarding highway safety, with three of those laws revolving around cellphone use. Commercial drivers are no longer able to use handheld phones whatsoever, plus, there is now no cell phone use allowed by anyone within 500 feet of an emergency zone or within areas where road work is being conducted.  More serious penalties for unreasonable speeding infractions were also passed.
