The state of New Mexico doesn’t really know the true extent of the dangers involved with distracted driving. While statistics show that only two accidents were texting while driving-related last year, the true numbers are believed to be much higher. Police officials say people often don’t admit to texting while driving following accidents. Unless police obtain a warrant for cell phone data, they cannot be sure an offense occurred. In many cases where guilt has already been established, the further bother of identifying the behavior is simply not worth the time.
