A new study looks at the efficacy of motorcycle helmets in regards to protecting an individual’s face. The study, which was conducted by a University of California surgeon and published today in the Archives of Surgery, involved researchers sifting through National Trauma Data Bank injury records. Researchers determined that motorcyclists who utilize a helmet are 60% less likely to suffer facial damage than those who opt out of wearing a helmet. The results aren’t terribly surprising, but it does offers additional proof that helmets can go a long way toward preventing all sorts of injuries, not just cranial trauma.
