Car Radios Illegal? In 1930, Registrar Put Together a Solid Case

Driver distractions aren’t a new concern, according to a new report that we’ve previously touched upon. In 1930, the Massachusetts registrar of motor vehicles wanted to ban car radios due to their potential to distract drivers. He argued motorists would need to remove their hands from a wheel to search for a station and that soft music would put drivers to sleep.  Loud music was even thought to distract other motorists. Texting while driving is illegal in 39 states, and handheld phones are banned in 10.
