A new California law allows the hands-free use of technology that allows a driver to text while driving, but it has some detractors. On July 15, the Governor of California signed a law allowing drivers to use hands-free technology to dictate, listen to, or send text messages while driving. The new law goes into effect on January 1, 2013. If you pick up your phone, however, and actually speak into it during your commute, you will still have violated the cellphone ban already in place. Not everyone is happy with the new law. The Supervising Deputy District Attorney thinks that hands-free texting still takes a driver’s mind away from their environment.
