In Little Rock, Arkansas, the attorney general recently issued a warning to drivers, particularly teens, about the dangers of texting while driving. During summer vacation, teenagers are more likely to be behind the wheel. Not only is the use of cell phones while driving dangerous, it is also illegal for those under 18. According to a study from the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, the likelihood of a car crash increases by 23 times when texting and driving. Furthermore, a survey from AAA reveals that about 50% of teens admit to texting while driving. The attorney general’s warning is a followup to Mariah’s Act, a piece of recently passed federal legislation that provides financial incentives to states that educate teens about distracted driving.
