Despite countless efforts by local, state and national agencies, drivers are still driving distracted. Lawmakers and enforcement agencies agree that distracted driving has become nearly epidemic. The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) recently released a detailed report, “Curbing Distracted Drivers,” which outlines the most recent accident data (2008) and the plan of action by each state’s safety programs. With over half a million distracted driving accidents resulting in nearing 6,000 deaths, it is clear that drivers are not ready to give in to the bans on electronic devices or the convenience of eating and grooming on the go.
