The Transportation Secretary, who has made it his responsibility to get states to ban cellphone use in cars, has expressed his pleasure with the new Model Minimum Uniform Crash Criteria Guideline, which allows police officials to recognize specific distracted driving behaviors as a reason for a car crash. Some things officials will now need to look out for include whether a crash was caused by eating, performing personal hygiene, texting or dialing a number. Distracted driving could possibly be responsible for up to 30% of car crashes.
