Report Discusses Ways to Avoid Hydroplaning Accidents

Posted on July 5, 2012

The owner of the Orlando, Florida-based B and W Driving School has advice for people facing wet roads. He explains the cause of hydroplaning (water building in front of the tire) and offers several tips for how to handle it, including easing off the gas, avoiding sudden turns, and not hitting the brakes. Tips are also offered for avoiding hydroplaning altogether, such as tire maintenance and turning off cruise control. He suggests using a penny to measure tire treads- if you can see Lincoln in the two main channels, it’s time to replace the tire.
