I just brought a report to your attention which concerned a lighting product that posed a danger, and now comes word that yet another item could also potentially endanger consumers.
This time, the recall was announced by the Elgin, Illinois-based Thomas Lighting, and concerns their ceiling flush mount light fixtures that range in diameter from seven and a half to thirteen inches. Each of the items are dome shaped, hang down from the ceiling, and are likely to have a nib on the bottom that matches the color running around the top of the light. They were produced in 2010 between June 1 and November 25.
28 models encompassing 83,750 different lights fall within the purview of the recall. The recall was deemed necessary because the insulation surrounding the item’s socket wire can deteriorate, thus exposing the wire beneath and sending electricity to the metal parts of the light. This creates the risk of a serious shock and fire hazard, and Thomas Lighting has already been the recipient of 11 reports wherein the defect led to the unit’s safety circuit interrupter kicking into action. No one was hurt in those instances.
The item was available at various retail locations between July of 2010 and July of last year. They cost from $19 to $50 depending on the model. Anyone who owns the item is advised to stop using it (without touching the fixture itself) and to call Thomas to get a service technician to come out to your home to repair the light for free.
