Last week, I brought you news of a series of Vermeer vehicles recalled because of a defect affecting the frame, and today comes word of another Vermeer recall for a separate frame issue affecting a completely different vehicle!
This recall is substantially smaller than the previous one, affecting a total of 14 units. Still, the danger should not be underestimated. The recall affects R9X12T trailers of model years between 2010 and 2012.
These 14 Vermeer trailers don’t have the proper amount of clearance between the frame of the trailer and a component known as the slack adjuster arm. While driving, this defect could lead the arm to repeatedly come into contact with the axle. This would begin to bend the adjuster arm if it continues to happen, leading to the brakes on the trailer becoming compromised. The brakes would then take longer to bring the vehicle to a stop, creating a crash hazard due to the extended distance required to halt.
Owners can expect to receive a notice from Vermeer; at this time, however, there’s no word on when this notice will be dispersed. Once it is, though, affected consumers will be able to bring their trailers to a dealer to receive the necessary repairs. These repairs will consist of a free axle replacement.
