Motorhome chassis recalled due to brake failure risk

Posted on June 5, 2012

At the request of the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Daimler Trucks of North America has announced a voluntary recall for nearly 2,300 of its Freightliner Custom Chassis Incomplete Motorhome Chasses equipped with the Bosch Hydraulic Disc Brake. These chasses were manufactured between March of 2005 and July of 2011 for sale during model years 2005 through 2012. The Bosch Hydraulic Disc Brake installed in affected chasses may, after prolonged periods of disuse may experience reduced piston to bore clearance and diametrical brake caliper piston growth, conditions that could lead to overheating and brake drag, potentially causing a decrease in brake performance and an increase in the likelihood that the vehicle equipped with this chassis will become involved in a traffic accident, potentially leading to severe injury or death. Daimler Trucks of North America has announced plans to notify the owners of affected Freightliner Custom Chassis Incomplete Motorhome Chasses. Consumers in possession of chasses affected by this recall may return them to authorized Daimler dealers, where they will be repaired at no additional cost. More information regarding this recall can be obtained by contacting Daimler directly and referencing campaign number FL-628, or by calling the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline and referencing NSTSA campaign identification number 12V242000 and action number PE12004. Under United States law, it is illegal to resell a vehicle with an unresolved recall issue.
