More than 100 Lincoln limos, hearses recalled

Posted on June 5, 2012

Ford Motor Company, at the request of the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, has issued a voluntary recall for 128 Lincoln vehicles equipped with the limousine or hearse preparation packages, due to a potential safety issue related to the vehicles’ service brakes and air disc brake rotors. The vehicles affected by this recall are model year 2013 Lincoln Town Car and MKT vehicles manufactured between March of 2012 and April of 2012. These vehicles, which were equipped with hearse or limousine preparation packages, may have been transported with incorrectly seated rear brake rotor bolts, causing the bolt head to extend beyond the wheel mounting surface. A protruding bolt head can lead to insufficient wheel joint torque and an increased risk of wheel separation. If the wheel becomes separated while the vehicle is in motion, the likelihood the vehicle will be involved in a traffic collision, possibly leading to serious injury or death. Vehicles affected by this recall have all been quarantined at the manufacturer’s facility, and the potential safety issue will be corrected before these vehicles are delivered to their owners. Notices of this recall were sent out to the purchasers of affected vehicles last month. More information regarding this voluntary recall can be obtained by contacting the Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center or calling the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline and referencing NHTSA campaign identification number 12V243000.
