Dexter brake actuator pump recall now includes 5 Stoll trailers

Posted on June 1, 2012

The recall for trailers equipped with Dexter Axle brand electric hydraulic brake actuator pumps has been expanded to include five trailers manufactured by Stoll Trailers Incorporated, at the request of the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Dexter Axle brand electric hydraulic brake actuator pumps installed in these trailers may have been improperly heat treated during the manufacturing process, possibly leading to a loss of durability. These brake actuator pumps may break down unexpectedly due to quicker than anticipated wear and tear on key pump components with prolonged routine use. The brake actuator pump, the power source for the trailer’s braking system, may malfunction, causing the brakes to fail and increasing the likelihood that the trailer will become involved in a collision causing serious injury or death. The Stoll trailers affected by this recall are five stock trailers from model years 2011 and 2012. Stoll has announced plans to notify the owners of affected trailers in the near future. Consumers in possession of these trailers may return them to authorized Dexter Axle dealers, where the potentially defective electric hydraulic brake actuator pump will be replaced with a properly heat treated pump at no additional cost. More information about this recall can be obtained by calling the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline and referencing NHSTA campaign identification number 12V233000 and NHTSA action number EQ12003, or visit the manufacturer’s web site.
