Botulism Threat Forces Recall of Euphoria’s Dried Bream Seafood

Posted on June 20, 2012

A seafood item is being recalled because of the danger it poses to the health of persons who consume the product.

The recall was announced by the Brooklyn, New York-based Euphoria Fancy Food and concerns their Dried Bream that was available in seven and a half ounce plastic bags.  Each of these bags was vacuum sealed in an unmarked package and shipped across the entire country.  The fish carries a UPC of 7 930042 250954.

The fish, which was imported from Russia, failed to pass a routine inspection conducted by food inspectors with the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.  An analysis turned up evidence that the fish wasn’t eviscerated in accordance with safety guidelines.  When seafood hasn’t been eviscerated properly, the product is in danger of being contaminated with Clostridium botulinum spores, the cause of botulism poisoning in humans.  Botulism can lead to weakness, compromised vision, breathing problems, and more.

Thankfully, no reports have come to the company’s attention of consumers facing these types of symptoms.  Nevertheless, anyone who possesses the item should subsist from consuming the fish and instead return it from where it was bought.  No word on if a refund will be given.  Anyone who has additional questions or concerns is advised to contact Euphoria directly.
