Another vehicle is being recalled because of the threat it could pose to highway safety.
Ducati North America has announced the recall of 1199 Panigale motorcycles of the 2012 model year. At issue is the fact that an incorrect screw may have been used in these motorcycles. The screw is supposed to keep the springarm attached to the linkage that connects it to the rear suspension.
The presence of the incorrect screw can cause the linkage to become unhooked from the springarm entirely, which would result in a complete collapse of the suspension of the vehicles. In turn, this would likely create an inability of the driver to control the motorcycle in a way that promotes safe navigation. Thus, the threat of a crash becomes far greater.
375 motorcycles in total fall within the scope of the recall. Owners can contact Ducati or go to the company’s website should they have any questions or concerns that need to be addressed immediately. Otherwise, Ducati has announced their intentions to provide all affected owners with notification of the issue. Once this notification goes out, owners will be able to arrange for an inspection and replacement of the screw that causes the potential issue. There is, as of yet, no word on when the recall is slated to begin.
