Report Offers Tips on Dealing With Towing & Auto Repair Companies

Although being involved in an automobile accident can be stressful, it’s important to keep your cool and make the right decisions so that you can avoid further hassles in the future.  A new report from the Better Business Bureau offers some tips on how to protect yourself in the wake of an accident, especially as it concerns contacting a towing company and a repair shop.

The first thing they suggest is getting in touch with your insurance company to let them know what’s going on.  Once that’s done, you can then move on to getting your vehicle towed.  When a tow truck arrives, it’s critical to make sure their signage matches the name of the place you called.  Whatever you do, do not let someone take your vehicle if they’ve just showed up without provocation.  If you really want to verify their credentials, give the company a call back to confirm they are who they say they are.

Once your vehicle has been towed, it’s on to the repair shop.  Records of service can be looked over at the Better Business Bureau, and you’re well within your rights to interview mechanics before making your service selection.  Certification should be displayed at qualified shops, and it’s also important to verify that the mechanic working on your vehicle has experience with that model.

Finally, ask people close to you about their experiences.  They could have valuable recommendations and turn you onto a trusted repair source.  The last tip:  don’t pay your entire bill until your car is fixed.
