There is a recall currently underway concerning Starcraft Starlite shuttle buses that were produced between April 1 of last year and this past March 25. Starcraft Bus announced the recall, which affects those versions of buses which came with Prolo Roof Hatches manufactured by Specialty Manufacturing Inc. A total of 61 buses are encompassed by the scope of this recall.
The reason for the recall is heightened levels of friction between the nylon pop-up support and the rear plate assemblies on the aforementioned roof hatches. This large amount of friction could cause an opening force that brings the units out of compliance with federal requirements that mandate acceptable emergency exit standards. In an emergency exit from the vehicle, people might not be able to get out through the hatch because of the defect. If a speedy exit is warranted in order to prevent disaster, this faulty hatch could lead to injury for the occupants of the bus.
Starcraft should be notifying owners at some point this month, if that notification hasn’t been issued already. They will also be supplying repair kits and instructions to both owners and dealers.
