278 Diamond Coach PT and VIP Buses Recalled For Lift Defect

Posted on June 19, 2012

A recall has been initiated by Diamond Coach Corporation concerning their PT and VIP buses of model years between 2008 and 2010.  These vehicles were built with Braun Vista-2 and Century-2 wheelchair lifts.  A total of 278 vehicles fall within the scope of this particular recall.

The reason that these products are being recalled is because with extensive use, roll stop latches on these wheelchair lifts’ outer barrier become bent out of shape, to the point that they would be completely out of alignment. This is dangerous to those who use a wheelchair because, if the lift is elevated, the wheelchair user may fall out and become injured. This scenario becomes a distinct possibility as the malformed latches would cause the roll stop not to operate the way that it should, so a person could simply roll right over this barrier.

Diamond Coach is cooperating with various Braun dealers to identify all of those persons who may be in possession of the affected vehicles.  Once identified, those consumers can expect some type of notification by the end of the month.  Braun has announced their intentions to fix all of these devices without forcing the consumer to incur the cost of the repairs.

Anyone with questions or concerns is advised to call Diamond Coach directly.
