Toys “R” Us recalls 24,000 activity centers due to choking hazard

Posted on May 30, 2012

Toys “R” Us Incorporated, a national toy store chain headquartered in Wayne, New Jersey, has announced a voluntary recall for an estimated 24,000 units of the Imaginarium Five Sided Activity Center because it poses a potential choking hazard for small children.  The Imaginarium Five Sided Activity Center is equipped with a xylophone element that employs small wooden knobs to affix the xylophone keys to the base unit. These small wooden knobs can become detached from the activity center, creating a choking danger to the young children for which the product is intended, according to a statement issued by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission. The Imaginarium Five Sided Activity Center is a multi-faced wooden play station with a xylophone affixed to one triangular side, and a mirror affixed to the opposite triangular side with the word Imaginarium (the second “I” is dotted with a shooting star graphic) imprinted in a blue oval logo underneath it. The remaining three sides are square shaped with moving shapes, block letters and turning cogs. Affected activity centers were available exclusively at Toys “R” Us stores throughout the United States and from the Toys “R” Us website between August of 2009 and September of 2010 for an estimated purchase price of $25. Packaging for the activity center is stamped with universal price code 000799985462841 on the back, immediately underneath the model number 46284. The Toys “R” Us item number for this product is 295909. None of these codes appears on the item apart from its packaging.
