More than 80 Rolls Royce Phantoms, a passenger vehicle available in convertible coupe and sedan models for a suggested retail price of more than $1 million, are being recalled because of a potential manufacturing defect that can cause brake failure in some cases. According to a statement released by the carmaker, Phantoms released in model years between 2003 and 2009 may leak oil into the vehicle’s brake booster system, possibly reducing the effectiveness of its power braking assistance feature, increasing the risk that the vehicle may be involved in a collision causing sever injury or death. Additionally, more than 30 Rolss Royce Ghost sedans are being recalled because they pose a potential fire hazard. Product Safety Recalls Australia, a subdivision of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, has issued a recall statement warning that the vehicle, which was sold between 2009 and 2011 for an average price of $645,000, may experience turbo cooling pump fracture, possibly causing the pump’s electronic components to short circuit posing an engine compartment fire hazard that could potentially lead to the vehicle becoming engulfed in flames.
