Costco recalls cookware sets due to injury risk

Posted on May 25, 2012

An estimated 4,600 Circulon Cookware sets have been recalled by the Meyer Corporation because the pose an injury hazard to consumers. The Meyer Corporation, headquartered in Vallejo, California, has issued this recall voluntarily in response to a request from the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission. The five quart covered sauté pan included with the Circulon Cookware set has a glass lid which can break, shatter, or crack into sharp edged pieces that pose a laceration hazard to consumers. The defective glass lid has a rubber and steel handle and a metal rim, and it measures 11 inches in diameter. The five quart covered sauté pan is included as part of a thirteen piece Circulon Premier Professional cookware set that includes four additional glass lids along with 1-quart and 3-quart saucepans, an 8-quart stockpot, a 4-quart saucepot, and 8.5-, 10- and 12-inch French skillets. These cookware sets, manufactured in China were sold exclusively at Costco Wholesale stores and on the Costco website for a price of around $200 from October 2011 to March of 2012. Consumers in possession of this affected cookware set should discontinue use of the five quart covered sauté pan’s glass lid. A new redesigned lid that does not pose this laceration hazard will be provided to the owners of affected cookware sets by Circulon in the near future. More information on this recall can be obtained by contacting the manufacturer or the United Consumer Product Safety Commission, which is currently interested in hearing any customer complaints concerning this product.
