Surveyor travel trailers recalled due to potential fire hazard

Posted on May 31, 2012

At the request of the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Forest River Incorporated has issued a voluntary recall for 447 Surveyor Travel Trailers, due to a potential fire hazard. The Surveyor Travel Trailers affected by this recall were manufactured between August 2011 and April 2012 for sale during model years 2012 and 2013. Specific floor plan models of Surveyor Travel Trailers produced and distributed during this timeframe may been manufactured with a design flaw affecting the vehicle’s fuel system and gasoline delivery hoses lines, piping, and fittings.  In these floor plans, the liquid propane gas line is affixed along the bottom of the trailer’s frame rail in a manner that may cause the trailer axle “U” bolt to pinch the fuel line against the main rail if the trailer is impacted from the bottom on an unevenly surfaced road, possibly leading to a fuel line rupture and fire hazard. Forest River Incorporated plans to begin notifying owners of affected Surveyor Travel Trailers of this potential safety issue in the near future. Consumers in possession of affected travel trailers may return them to authorized dealers of Forest River Incorporated travel trailers, where the liquid propane fuel line will be rerouted at no additional cost. More information on this recall can be obtained by contacting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline and referencing NHSTA campaign identification number 12V212000.
