Taylor Farms Recalls Organic Spinach Due to Salmonella Risk

Posted on May 23, 2012

The threat of salmonella is once again making its presence known, this time in a variety of lettuce items that could be posing a danger to consumers.

The recall of Organic Baby Spinach was announced by the Salinas-based Taylor Farms Retail.  There are two different items contained within the scope of the recall.  The first item is Marketside brand Baby Spinach-Organic that comes in a 10 ounce clamshell package.  The second item encompassed by the recall is Private Selections brand Organic-Baby Spinach that comes packaged in a 5 ounce clamshell.

Consumers are being advised to check the best by date on the lower right of the front of the item’s packaging.  Each of the affected products is best when used by May 25 of this year.  The items were only distributed on two days, May 9 and 10, by the company.  The products were available throughout a number of states across the country, including right here in California.

No illnesses have come to the attention of the company as of yet, but consumers should still be cautious in regard to these products.  Salmonella infections can be life-threatening in people with weakened immune systems, but even those who are relatively healthy face consequences that may include vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea.  As such, consumers are being advised to get rid of the items at once.
