Evaporators Equipped on Nesco Buses Recalled Due to Fire Hazard

Posted on May 7, 2012

Nesco Bus Maintenance is notifying consumers that some Carrier Gen V EM-1 Evaporators fitted into different school and transit buses are defective. As such, a recall has been initiated on these vehicle components.  231 vehicles are encompassed by this particular recall.

The problem is that the fuse holder in the motor assembly of the evaporators might have a fuse loosen due to temperature change, extended use over time, or constant vibration. Any of these things may result in arcing due to a high amount of resistance, and if left unchecked, a fire can break out if the arcing is so great that it causes the fuse holder to melt.

Nesco will instruct all affected owners on how to get a retrofit kit from Carrier, and they will also provide instructions on how to repair the item. The timing of when affected customers can expect to receive this information has not been listed as of yet, but the service will be performed free of charge.  Concerned persons are being advised to check with the company to see if their vehicle is affected by the recall.

As a San Bernardino car accident attorney, I’m sorry to see any kind of vehicle pose a threat to consumer safety.  The fact that the vehicles in question might be carrying hordes of children is particularly disheartening.  I hope as a personal injury lawyer in San Bernardino that the operators of these vehicles follow the instructions of the recall so as to prevent further danger.
