The Viking Range Corporation, headquartered in Greenwood, Mississippi, announced a voluntary recall of approximately 2,000 of its Viking dishwashers due to a risk that an electrical component in the dishwasher may become overheated and potentially cause the dishwasher to catch fire. The company has received 21 consumer complaints regarding the component’s propensity to overheat, including five complaints of fires resulting in property damage.
Dishwasher models affected by this recall include Viking 24 inch Professional, Designer and Custom Panel dishwashers manufactured between May and September 2010 and available for sale at appliance and retail stores across the United States between June 2010 and March 2012 in 26 colors including black, white as well as models made from stainless steel and custom wood panels. The dishwashers were sold at prices ranging from $1,425 to $2,000. The recall affects dishwashers bearing model numbers DDB325, DFB450, VDB325 and VDB450 and serial numbers with their first six digits (representing the manufacturing date) ranging from 052610 to 091510. The model and serial number are located on the identification plate affixed along the inside of the dishwasher doorframe. Owners of dishwashers affected by the recall should discontinue their use immediately and contact the manufacturer for an in-home repair a no cost to the consumer.
