Spyder Roadster recalled due to brake failure risk

Posted on April 17, 2012

A recent recall serves as a reminder that a small piece of equipment can cause a serious problem if it begins to malfunction.

Bombadier Motor Corporation has announced a voluntary recall of more than 3,200 of its Can-Am Spyder RT Roadsters. The recall has been issued due to a potentially defective pin that may inadequately secure the brake pedal connecting rod, creating the possibility that the rod could become detached from the vehicle. This component affects elements of the service brakes and foot and air controls.

If the pin disengages from the vehicle, the vehicle’s brake function could cease, creating an increased possibility that the vehicle could become involved in a traffic collision, which could lead to serious injury or death.

Consumers affected by this recall should contact Bombardier Motor Corporation for more information about the recall. The company will replace the connecting rod pins securing the brake pedal connecting rod at no cost to the customer. Owners seeking more information about this recall should contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline and reference campaign identification number 12V159000.

As a Riverside personal injury attorney, I sincerely hope that this recall is successfully carried out before anyone is injured by this potentially defective auto part. If you or someone you love or care about has been injured in an accident linked to a malfunctioning vehicle, please consider discussing your case with a Riverside car accident lawyer.
