Novice and future teen drivers in Sacramento will be offered a driver safety education class, sponsored by the California Highway Patrol’s Valley Division
The free Start Smart/Impact Teen Drivers class will be held at the California Highway Patrol’s Valley Division office in Sacramento. According to a California Highway Patrol news release, the law enforcement agency has been working with Impact Teen Drivers for four years in an effort to discourage teenagers from reckless and distracted driving. Impact Teen Drivers was an idea originally credited to the CEO of the California Association of Highway Patrolmen, as an attempt to reduce the high number of collisions involving teens.
Discussion topics will include driver responsibility, common accident causes, techniques for avoiding car accidents, and laws governing distracted driving, alcohol-related driving, and the process for securing a provisional license. Driving techniques such as parallel parking and quick vehicle safety inspection will be taught in a hands-on fashion.
Teens will also have the chance to ask questions of the California Highway Patrol officers. Legal guardians and parents of teen drivers are also invited to attend the classes, but space is limited.
