The Chrysler Group Limited Liability Company has announced a voluntary recall for 1,689 of its Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass sport utility vehicles due to a potentially defective fuel tank assembly. The affected vehicles were manufactured between December 17, 2011, and January 2, 2012 and bear a 2012 model year designation. The vehicles affected by this recall may have been assembled with a damaged roll over valve in the fuel tank. If a vehicle with an inadequate roll over valve is involved in a collision or roll over incident, the vehicle could leak fuel, increasing the danger of a fire hazard. Chrysler is expected to begin notifying owners affected by this recall in June of 2012.
