Krispak recalls Candy Mix due to undeclared allergens

Posted on April 26, 2012

At the request of the United States Food and Drug Administration, Krispak Incorporated, a manufacturer headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, has announced a voluntary recall of 16 cases of its 8 to 48 ounce packages of its GFS Hostess Candy Mix.  Due to a possible packing error, some cases of Hostess Candy Mix were mistakenly packaged in GFS Chocolate Sprinkle packages. The Hostess Candy Mix contains potential allergens including milk, eggs, and wheat, none of which has been declared on the ingredients list for Chocolate Sprinkles. Consumers with severe allergies to milk, eggs or wheat may suffer allergic reactions if they unknowingly consume these ingredients. These allergens might cause severe illness or even death to some allergic consumers. Hostess Candy Mix was distributed for sale in Gordon Food Service Marketplace Stores located in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana from April 5 to April 19. The Hostess Candy Mix affected by the recall are packaged in 48 ounce red stand up packages labeled Chocolate Sprinkles The top of this package is imprinted with code date 088 12. After investigation, the company has determined that the error was caused by a temporary malfunction in the product packaging process.

As a personal injury lawyer San Bernardino, I am hopeful that this recall is carried out effectively to avoid any illness that might result from this packaging error. If you or someone you love has been harmed by a mislabeled or defective product, please consider contacting a Ventura personal injury lawyer.
