Beef stuffed potatoes mislabeled, recalled

Posted on April 4, 2012

An estimated 5,400 pounds of beef stuffed potatoes have been voluntarily recalled by their manufacturer, Al-Baghdadi Foods, a family-owned Middle-Eastern food supplier established more than 20 years ago in Hazel Park. These beef stuffed potatoesbear an ingredient label that does not reflect a recent recipe change. The potatoes now contain soy and milk, two known allergens that may pose a health risk to unaware consumers. Al-Baghdadi products are often featured at diversity focused food fairs because they are popular with health-conscious culture  and consumers of Middle-Eastern origin. They meet the dietary requirements of Muslims by using USDA approved Halal Meat.

The recall affects 12-count units labeled Fully Cooked Potato Chop Middle Eastern Brand Mashed Potato Stuffed with Beef Filling Artificially Colored. The products were produced from August 16, 2011 to April 2, 2012 for distribution to retail stores, and wholesale establishments in Arizona, Illinois and Michigan, and their product labels bear the establishment number EST. 44182 inside the USDA mark of inspection, according to a statement released by the United States Department of Agriculture.

As a qualified Bakersfield personal injury lawyer,  I hope this recall can be carried out before anyone with a food allergy mistakenly consumes one of these mislabeled products. If you or someone you know has been injured or made ill by a mislabeled or otherwise defective product, please consider contacting a licensed Fresno personal injury attorney to discuss the details of your case.
