Gooseneck trailers recalled due to brake issues

Posted on April 13, 2012

Maxey Trailers Incorporated has announced the voluntary recall of 48 of its Gooseneck Tandem Dual Flatbed Trailers due to a potential brake failure issue. The trailers, which were manufactured between September and December of 2011, may have been equipped with Dexter axle electric hydraulic brake actuator pumps that have been improperly heat treated. These brake actuator pumps may degrade prematurely with routine wear and tear, causing the possibility for brake failure. The brake actuator pumps provide power to the Gooseneck Tandem Dual Flatbed Trailer’s braking mechanism and a malfunction might cause the brakes to fail, increasing the likelihood that the trailer is involved in a collision that might cause injury or death.  The Maxey Trailers company has begun notifying owners of trailers affected by the recall of the potential safety issue. Licensed Gooseneck trailer dealerships will replace the potentially defective brake actuator pumps on affected vehicles at no cost to the consumer. For more information on the recall, contact the manufacturer directly, or call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline and reference campaign identification number 12V156000.
