PJ trailers recalled due to brake failure risk

Posted on April 24, 2012

PJ Trailers, in response to a request from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, has issued a voluntary recall for nearly 200 of its trailers due to a potential for brake failure. The trailers affected by this recall have been equipped with Dexter Axle brand electric hydraulic brake actuator pumps. The potential exists that these actuator pumps have been insufficiently heat treated to prevent premature degradation in the course of routine use.  The actuator pump is responsible for providing power to the trailer’s braking system. The pump may unexpectedly become inoperable potentially causing the trailers’ brakes to malfunction, increasing the risk that it will become involved in a collision that might lead to injury or death. The trailers affected by this recall were distributed for sale during model year 2012. The manufacturer is scheduled to begin recalling these trailers in the near future. Owners of affected trailers can return them to the dealership for a free actuator replacement. Consumers seeking more information about this recall can contact the company or call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle safety hotline and reference NHTSA campaign identification number 12V174000.

As a car accident lawyer in Ventura, I sincerely hope this recall is carried out in time to prevent any accidents or injuries this potential safety issue might cause.
