Town and Country Foods Incorporated, headquartered in Greene, Maine, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, has announced a voluntary recall for more than 2,000 pounds of tenderized ground beef products due to the potential that they have been contaminated with E. coli O157:H7
Food products affected by the recall are marked by the following packaging codes: 10952, 10962, 10972, 11002, and 11012.
The products were produced between April 4, 2012 and April 10, 2012 and distributed to Maine wholesale and retail establishments packaged in: five and ten pound packages of 2, 2.6, 3, and 4 ounce Town and Country Foods XL Hamburg Patties; five and ten pound packages of 2, 2.6, 3, and 4 ounce Town and Country Foods Hamburg Patties; ten packages of Town and Country Beef for Stewing; 6, 8, and 10 ounce Town and Country Beef Sirloin Filets, five and ten pound packages of Town and Country Hamburg; and five and ten pound packages of Town and Country XL Hamburg.
Routine product testing performed by the Town and Country Foods company returned traces of E.coli O157:H7, a bacterium that can cause symptoms dehydration, bloody diarrhea , and in extreme cases, renal failure which can potentially lead to death.
