Broken Conveyor Belt Leads to Wegmans Bread Recall

Posted on March 30, 2012

Wegmans has announced a recall of a variety of pita bread products whose safety may have been compromised.

The items that fall under the purview of the recall were only available for purchase on Wednesday.  Numerous products have been affected by this particular safety recall, including mini and regular sized white pita bread, whole wheat mini pita bread, multi grain mini pita bread, multigrain whole wheat thin sandwich rolls, whole grain white thin sandwich rolls, and 100% whole wheat sandwich rolls.  All of the items were sold on March 28 and have a sell by date of either April 3 or April 5.

The issue that prompted the recall has to do with the manufacture of the items.  A conveyor belt was damaged during the manufacturing process, and as such, there is a possibility that plasticized fabric or metal could have made its way into the products.  Although there have been no reports of this yet, users are advised to take caution.

Consumers will be able to return the items to the place of purchase in order to receive a complete refund on the price of the bread products.

As a Riverside personal injury attorney, I’m glad to see this recall issued before an injury was reported.  It’s my hope that this and all the other recalls out there reach their intended audience before disaster strikes, which is why I make it my duty as a Long Beach personal injury lawyer to spread the word whenever I can.
