Walmart Recalls Cookie Product Due to Undeclared Allergen

Posted on January 31, 2012

Sometimes a food recall can occur not because a product has been contaminated with a material that’s a danger to everyone, but because it contains unlisted ingredients that could pose a danger to those with a particular allergy.

That’s what happened today when our friends up north in the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, in conjunction with Walmart, announced a warning and a recall of Original Gourmet Brand Passion Cookies.

The 25-gram package in question, which has a Best Before date of 11 05 2012 LH 031 and a UPC of 6 54954 20349, could contain hazelnuts, which are not described on the label.  The item was distributed all across Canada.

Those people who are allergic to hazelnuts could endure a severe allergic reaction because of the product.  Already, one person has reported having a reaction after consuming the item.

As a personal injury lawyer in San Francisco, I find it beneficial to monitor recall information from all across the world.  Just yesterday, headlines popped up all over the nation because of a shipment of oranges that were prevented from entering America from Canada because of the possible contamination of a fungicide.  You never know when a recall can cross the border, and as a personal injury lawyer, I think it’s important that this information be related expediently.
