Listeria Contamination Prompts Spinach Recall

Posted on October 24, 2011

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market Inc., in cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration, has issued a voluntary recall of one of their spinach products, according to recent news sources.

The recall is being conducted after a random sample tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. The product affected by this recall is the fresh bagged Washed Spinach in a 12 ounce bag. The product is imprinted with an “Enjoy by” date of October 16. A barcode of 20001124 is also on the bag. The spinach was sold in California, Nevada, and Arizona.

No illnesses have been reported in relation to this recall. Customers in possession of this product should return the bag to their store of purchase for a full refund.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria which can cause a life-threatening infection in some people. Especially at risk are the elderly, young children, those with compromised immune systems, and pregnant women.
