Volkswagen Conducts Recall Due to Fire Hazard

Posted on October 7, 2011

Volkswagen has issued a recall of about 168,000 Volkswagens and Audis with TDI engines due to a fire hazard, according to recent news sources.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has reported that the cars subject to recall are 2009-2012 Jetta and Jetta Sportswagen model years, and the 2010-2012 Audi A3 model years. Of the 168,000, approximately 7,000 of the cars subject to recall are Audis.

It has been discovered that a fuel line in the vehicles could potentially leak, increasing the risk of a fire. An investigation led by the National Highway Traffic Safety Agency was opened against the 2011 Jetta in August.

Volkswagen has stated that only a handful of vehicles have experienced leaks, and no fires have been reported.
