Yamaha has issued a recall for their VMX17 motorcycles due to an engine malfunction, according to recent news sources.
The recall affect about 2,300 of the the VMX17, or V-MAX, bikes. The model years affected are 2009 to 2011. The variants include the YB, YCB, ZR, ZCR, AG and ACG.
The issue is high oil pressure inside the oil pump. This pressure can cause the oil pump to malfunction. If oil ceases to run through the engine, engine damage is very likely. This severe engine damage can cause the bike to stall and not start again, which would be dangerous for bikers on busy roadways.
The recall is scheduled to begin in October. If you have concerns about your motorcycle, you can call Yamaha or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Yamaha plans to replace the oil pump, free of charge.
