Fine Mexican Food Products, Inc., based in Ontario, CA, has issued a recall of their avocado products due to a concern over listeria contamination, according to news sources.
The products subject to recall are 1,423cases of 12/2 lb. Frozen Avocado Pulp and 1,820 cases IQF 8/3 lb. Avocado Halves. The products have been distributed since June 2010. The expiration date on the product is June, July, or August 2012. Distribution was limited to the state of California.
The presence of listeria monocytogenes in consumed food can be life-threatening in young children, the elderly, those with compromised immune systems, and pregnant women and their unborn child. Symptoms include headache, fever, stiffness, nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain, and confusion.
No illnesses have currently been reported due to consumption of these products. The point of contamination is still being investigated.
