In a news release Tuesday, YoCream International, Inc. announced the recall of one of its frozen yogurt mix flavors due to an undeclared allergen, namely eggs.
Subject to recall, with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, is YoCream’s NY Cheesecake Frozen Yogurt Mix. Individuals who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs may be at risk of a serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume the recalled product. The Portland, Ore.-based company is aware of one report of a customer experiencing an allergic reaction.
The affected frozen yogurt mix is sold in half-gallon cartons and has the UPC code 81995 92147. Only one SKU (92147) was affected by the mislabeling issue. The frozen yogurt mix was distributed nationwide and to one U.S.-based exporter. The recalled frozen yogurt mix is not sold as consumer retail packaged item.
Distributors and food service operators have been instructed to contact YoCream to either obtain labels that declare the presence of eggs and instructions for applying the labels or arrange for disposal and replacement of the recalled frozen yogurt mix. Distributors and food service operators have also been given the option of printing their own labels divulging the presence of eggs as long as the labels match a predetermined template.
