In a news release Monday, Xymogen announced that it recalling specific lots of three varieties of OrganiX Bars because the bars may contain undeclared peanut protein.
The bars affected by the recall were distributed nationwide via mail order between August 4, 2010 and April 19, 2011. They were distributed in boxes containing 12 50g bars. Lot numbers appear in white ink on the upper left side of the retail carton and on the wrapper of individual bars.
The bar flavors subject to recall are Spice Bars (UPC# 8 7114900161 2; lots 1072110 and 2072110), Greens (UPC# 8 7114900162 9; lots 4072110 and 5072110), and Omega-3 (UPC# 8 7114900163 6; lot 1083110). The Spice Bars and Greens flavors have an expiration date of July 21, 2011. Omega-3 has an expiration date of August 31, 2011.
Xymogen initiated the recall after the company discovered that a lot of cashew butter was tested to contain peanut proteins. The supplier of the cashew butter supplier did not disclose the possible presence of peanut protein.
People who are allergic to or who have a severe sensitivity to peanut protein are at risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they unknowingly consume the recalled product. No allergic reactions have been reported in connection with the bars. Consumers may return the recalled bars to Xymogen for a full refund.
