According to news sources, General Motors and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are recalling certain models of the 2012 Buick LaCrosse sedan due to the cars failing to meet federal stipulations for electronic stability control (ESC).
Subject to recall are more than 4,000 vehicles manufactured between June and July. The Stabilitrak ESC system is improperly calibrated on the cars affected by the recall. The mis-calibration can prevent the detection of malfunctioning sensors by the control system, leading to a failure of a warning light to illuminate, alerting consumers to a problem with the Stabilitrak function. In the event of a malfunction, the ESC may not activate properly, which could cause the vehicle to handle unexpectedly, posing a risk of collision.
Currently, GM is expected to notify affected consumers of the recall this month. LaCrosse owners will be able to take their vehicles to a local dealership where the electronic brake control module of the Stabilitrak system will be reprogrammed by technicians at no cost to vehicle owners.
