In a news release Wednesday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that Ducati North America is recalling certain models of its 2011 Diavel motorcycle due to an issue with the kickstand that poses an injury risk to riders and bystanders.
Subject to recall are 919 motorcycles manufactured from May 18, 2010, through June 13, 2011. According to the release, the kickstand was made with insufficient material in the pivot area, which could lead the side stand bending or breaking, posing a rollover hazard, which could possibly lead to the injury of a rider or bystander near the motorcycle.
The news release did not contain information regarding whether any injuries had been reported in connection to the kickstand issue or whether Ducati or the NHTSA had received consumer complaints of faulty side stands.
The Italian motorcycle manufacturer is expected to notify owners of the safety recall this month. Once notified, affected motorcycle owners will be able to have the kickstand and pivot bolt replaced by an authorized dealer free of charge.
