Fall Threat Prompts Eecycleworks To Recall Bike Brakes

By PSB Admin on September 4, 2012

Bicycle brakes are being recalled by the La Canada, California-based eecycleworks LLC. The recall is due to a potential crack in the bridge of the brake that can lead to a fall. So far, two reports of an incident have been filed, although neither of those resulted in injuries more serious than scrapes and bruises. The models being recalled were sold between September 2oo8 and March 2011.  The company is asking those who own one of these bikes to call and get free replacement parts.

Baja Reissues Dirt Bike Recall Following More Fire Reports

By PSB Admin on April 12, 2012

Baja Motorsports is voluntarily recalling a series of dirt bikes due to fire hazards caused by a possible fuel tank leakage.

The DR50 and DR70 Baja dirt bikes that this recall concerns were made in China and were sold at Pep Boys and other motorsport stores.  4,300 units fall under the purview of this recall.  Each affected dirt bike will have a VIN that begins with L98, a B as its tenth digit, and a yellow dot or line near the VIN.  They retailed from $450 to $650 and were available for purchase between December 2010 and January of this year.

This is actually a reissue of a recall that was announced last month.  Baja felt the need to announce the recall once again because they received ten reports of an incident after the initial recall announcement was made.  Of those ten reports, two people suffered a burn injury, adding up to a total of  16 leaked fuel incidents.

These bikes should stop being used at once.  Baja Motorsports is offering free repairs for them, and consumers are being advised to contact them at once.

As a personal injury lawyer in San Bernardino, I remember reading about this recall the first time it was issued.  It saddens me that the information didn’t get out to all affected consumers the first time.  This is the reason that I take it upon myself as a Long Beach personal injury attorney to spread the word about recalls.

Some 2012 Bike Models Recalled after reported Injuries

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on October 31, 2011

According to various news sources, a Wisconsin bicycle maker has issued a recall for its 2012 models. They urge bicyclists to stop riding their recalled bikes until the products are fully inspected by their personnel.

Reports from the Waterloo-based company have shown that the concern is related to a defective bolt that keeps the seat saddle clamp attached to the seat post. This issue has appeared to be present on the District and Trek 2012 FX bikes. Officials say that if the problem is relevant to all items produced under both lines and the bolt breaks, it may lead to the alleged fall of many riders nationwide.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the problem was noticed after there were four reports of incidents related to this issue; one allegedly consisted of a rider who unfortunately had a broken tooth and a cut lip.

As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, I believe that all bikers should be aware of the conditions in which they are riding their bikes under. News related to the malfunctioning of any bicyclist’s gear should be every bike enthusiast’s must-read. Whenever you find yourself under a situation where you’ve been injured because of product defect, don’t delay in contacting a product liability lawyer.

By Los Angeles Personal Injury Lawyer on October 27, 2011

Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission have announced a voluntary by Trek Bicycle Corporation of some of their bikes due to a fall hazard, according to recent news sources.

The products affected by this recall are the Trek 2012 FX and District bicycles. About 27,000 were sold from May 2011 to September 2011 in bicycle specialty retailers for between $550 and $1,100. The following models are subject to recall: Model Year 2012: Trek 7.2 FX, 7.3 FX, 7.4 FX, AND 7.5 FX; District, and 9th District bicycle models: WSD, Livestrong and Disc models.

Four reports have been made to the manufacturer of injuries, including a broken tooth and injured lip. The problem is with the bolt that hold the seat to the seat post. This bolt can break, which increases the risk of a fall. Consumers can contact Trek for a replacement part, free of charge.
