Lawyers and judges from across Los Angeles County gathered at The Jonathan Club on January 18, 2018 to attend the Bench Meets Bar Reception hosted by the Barristers Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Sponsored by Panish Shea & Boyle LLP, Personal Court Reporters and ADR Services, the evening event was a great opportunity for lawyers to meet with the judicial officers who help ensure a just, efficient and accessible legal system in Los Angeles.

More than 200 guests, including 40 judges, mingled and shared experiences with one another including Presiding Judge of Los Angeles Superior Court Daniel Buckley and Chief Judge of Central District of California Virginia Phillips, both of whom delivered remarks to the crowd, emphasizing the importance of civility in the courtroom and the ways lawyers can help provide equal access to justice for disadvantaged members of our community.

“We were honored to be the recipients of such eloquent and wise words spoken by Judges Buckley and Phillips,” said PSB attorney Robert Glassman who introduced the judges. “It is incumbent upon each and every one of us who was in that room to heed their advice and hold ourselves to a high moral and ethical standard in our everyday practice of the law.”

Active for over 70 years, the mission of the LACBA Barristers Section is to provide opportunity-related services for lawyers younger than 36 years of age or those that have been admitted to practice for 5 years or less. Barristers activities, such as the Bench Meets the Bar event, offer new and young lawyers a forum to develop legal and leadership skills, build a professional reputation, network beyond the workplace and promote public service projects.
