Panish Shea & Boyle LLP Among 2017 CAOC Convention Speakers & Awards Finalists

Panish Shea & Boyle LLP attorneys and staff are honored to be among the featured speakers and award finalists at The 56th Annual Consumer Attorneys of California Convention later this month. The distinguished event begins Thursday, November 16 and concludes on Sunday, November 19 following three days of speaker sessions and the Annual Installation and Awards Dinner at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco.

Two landmark cases and seven Panish Shea & Boyle LLP attorneys are named among the finalists for 2017 CAOC Consumer Attorney of the Year including Brian Panish, Pete Kaufman, Rahul Ravipudi, Deborah Chang, Tom Schultz, Jake Douglass and Matthew Stumpf.  Mr. Douglass and PSB attorney Austin G. Ward are also named among the finalists for the 2017 CAOC Street Fighter of the Year award. The winners in each category will be announced on Saturday, November 18 at the annual CAOC awards dinner.

Friday

Rahul Ravipudi will discuss “Course And Scope — Even When You Are Not At Work” during the Brave New World: Emerging Issues in Automotive Litigation session beginning at 8:15 a.m. Other topics explored during this session include “Autonomous Vehicles: Liability, Legislation And Regulation” by Elise R. Deborah Chang will be a featured speaker during a 9:25 a.m. session entitled Show And Tell: Effective Storytelling Techniques At Trial. Ms. Chang will discuss “New Ways To Tell The Liability And Damages Story.” Additional topics include “Psychological Techniques To Get More Creative At Storytelling” by Lisa Blue Baron with Baron and Blue, “Visual Storytelling” by Zoe Littlepage with Littlepage Booth and “Using Analogies, Metaphors, And Examples To Tell Your Story” by Rainey Booth with Littlepage Booth.

Tom Schultz will speak on “Winning the Case with One Deposition: The Person Most Qualified Deposition” during the 9:25 a.m. session Effective Deposition Techniques. Additional topics include “Use Of Technology In Depositions” by Abbas Kazerounian of Kazerouni Law Group and “Winning Your Trial Using Videotaped Depositions: Opening Statement, Direct/Cross Examination And Closing Argument” by Brian D. Chase of Bisnar Chase, Trial Lawyers LLP.

PSB paralegal Cesar R. Garcia will present “Case Files On The Go (Remote Data Management At Trial) and 10 Pitfalls For Paralegals To Avoid Prior To Trial: A Case Study Of A Recent Trial” at the How To Manage Your Cases And Attorney session at 1:30 p.m. Additional topics include “A Task In Un-Burying: An Attorney’s Perspective” by Tamarah Prevost of Cotchett Pitre & McCarthy, LLP, “Discovery: The Nuts And Bolts” by Lupe Flores with Shernoff Bidart Echeverria LLP and “Trial And Post Trial Calendaring As Easy As One-Two-Three” by Sheri Dempsey of Greene, Broillet & Wheeler.

Brian Panish will speak on “Arguing General Damages” at the 3:30 p.m. session For Master Jedis: Lessons From Yoda. Additional topics include “Rebuttal Argument And Conscious Disregard For Safety” by Mark P. Robinson, Jr. of Robinson Calcagnie, Inc.,”Hope Springs: The Power Of Hope In Obtaining Justice For Your Clients” by Christine Spagnoli of Greene, Broillet & Wheeler LLP, and “The Harder You Work, The Smarter You Look: Creative Steps Which Lead To Courtroom Success” by Wylie A. Adam Shea will present “Demonstratives” as part of the 3:30 p.m. session For Young Jedis: The First Trial. Additional topics include “Tips On Trial Techniques From The Second Chair Perspective” by Danica Crittenden of Shernoff Bidart Echeverria LLP, “These Aren’t The Droids You’re Looking For: Persuasion Techniques For Your First Trial” by Alexander Wheeler of Parris Law Firm and “How To Put Together Your Personal Injury Trial” by Michael Alder of Alder Law.

Saturday

Robert Glassman will moderate the 8:15 a.m. session Achieving Your Goals As A Plaintiff Lawyer: Understanding The Path which will include topics “Is Success Worth Your Soul?” by Gregory G. Rizio with Rizio Law Firm PC, “Assessing The Ability And Potential Of New Lawyers — Where Are The Next Generation Of Gifted Plaintiff Lawyers?” by Niall P. McCarthy of Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy, LLP, and “So You Want To Be A Plaintiff’s Lawyer?” by Elizabeth Cabraser of Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein LLP.

Jake Douglass & Austin G. Ward of PSB and Shannon H.P. Ward of The Aarons Law Firm will present “Saving Lives On The Weekends: Pro Bono Asylum For Unaccompanied Minors” during the Immigration Law: Trends And  Updates session at 10:45 a.m. Noemi Esparza of Dreyer Babich Buccola Wood Campora will also discuss “Representing An Undocumented Client: Issues To Consider” during the morning session. 

Sunday

Patrick Gunning will present “iPads: Trial At Your Fingertips” at the 10 a.m. Latest Technology At Trial session. Additional topics include “Latest Programs” by Gary L.
