717,400 Chefmate Tea Kettles Recalled By Wilton Due to Burn Risks

Posted on August 21, 2013

717,400 two quart tea kettles, the vast majority of of them sold throughout the United States, are being recalled by the Woodridge, Illinois-based Wilton Industries due to a couple of potential burn hazards.  The recall affects Chefmate kettles that were only available from Target between January 2006 and May of this past year.  Consumers could be burned if the spout emanates water or the handle allows for steam to move across it.  The leaking of steam could also contribute to a lack of whistling, and if things get to the point where all of the water is evaporated from inside, the kettle’s bottom can melt, further exacerbating the burn threat.  Although no injuries have become known at this time, 13 people have filed incident reports.  The items should be brought back to Target for a refund.
